Wulf-Isebrand-Kaserne, Military barracks in Heide, Germany
The Wulf-Isebrand-Kaserne is a German Air Force base in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, made up of training areas, office buildings, and facilities for everyday operations. The grounds are organized around functional zones, as is common for an active military installation of this type.
The barracks was founded in 1967 and originally housed the Air Defense Missile Regiment 3. Over the following decades it was repurposed into a training center serving different Air Force units.
The name refers to Wulf Isebrand, a figure from the history of Schleswig-Holstein. Inside, military staff and civilian workers share the same daily routines, giving the place a mixed working environment that sets it apart from a purely military post.
The site is an active military base and is not open to the general public without prior authorization. Anyone planning a visit should check in advance what access is possible and whether registration is required.
Since 2007, civilians have been able to complete vocational training programs on the grounds alongside active military operations. This means that civilian apprentices and soldiers go through their daily routines in the same place at the same time.
