Evangelische Friedenskirche, Lutheran church in Eicken, Mönchengladbach, Germany

The Evangelische Friedenskirche stands at Margarethenstraße 20 in Eicken, set back from the street behind a 1985 community centre. The red brick building has a two-storey section with a tiled roof and a taller gabled section topped by a stone cross. Its left facade carries four lower and three upper windows with rounded brick arches and white frames, a circular window above the right upper window, and a brown double door under an arched surround.

The building was constructed in 1885 as a prayer hall and survived the religious tensions around 1938. Since its founding, the church has developed as an evangelical community space and remains active today.

The name Betsaal, used until 1953, recalled Gladbach's first Protestant prayer house of 1684, which by law stood outside the town walls without a bell tower. The bell hung here in 1887 comes from that earlier building, cast in 1686 and inscribed "Kirchen Siegel der Refermieten zu Gladbach 1686". Since 2006 the community centre in front has housed the Ecumenical Day Centre for the Elderly in Eicken.

The 1686 bell in the roof turret, cast for the Reformed congregation of Gladbach, was handed over in 1942, survived in East Germany and returned in 1949 with permission of the Soviet military administration. Its inscription reads "Kirchen Siegel der Refermieten zu Gladbach 1686", with "Refermieten" a misspelling of "Reformierten".
