The building was constructed in 1898 and initially housed the Kaufhaus Fanger department store. In the 1930s the Jewish owner was forced to close during the Nazi period.

The building is located in the Pieschen district and is easy to spot from the street. On the ground floor you will find the Istanbul Market, a Turkish supermarket serving the local community.
The building survived the 1945 Dresden bombings with only minimal damage to its structure. It retained many of its original architectural features through the decades and multiple changes of ownership.
