St. Nicholas' Church, Catholic church in Opfingen district, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
St. Nicholas' Church is a church building in Opfingen district, Freiburg im Breisgau, featuring a symmetrical structure with a large stepped gable roof and a robust tower with a hexagonal base on the east side. Inside, a modern organ installed in 2003 by Waldkircher Orgelbau contains 22 registers spread across two manuals and a pedal system.
The building was constructed between 1984 and 1986 according to architect Michel Geis's plans, standing at the village entrance on Freiburg Street. The original bell from Karlsruhe dated to 1986, with three additional bells added in 2019 to complete the Salve Regina ringing motif.
The entrance portal features an oak carving of Saint Nicholas created by Freiburg sculptor H.P. Wernet, representing the church's patron saint. This artwork greets visitors and connects the building to its religious dedication.
The building is easily accessible from the village entrance along Freiburg Street and is clearly visible from outside. Visitors can explore the interior to see the organ installation and experience the architectural design of the space.
Four bells in the tower together create the Salve Regina ringing motif, with the original 1986 bell providing the foundation. This sound combination emerged through the deliberate expansion in 2019 and gives the building its distinctive acoustic character.
