Church of Resurrection

The Church of Resurrection is a Lutheran church in Großhansdorf featuring a contemporary design with a folded roof structure and expansive windows that connect indoor and outdoor spaces. An adjoining parish hall extends the building to approximately 500 square meters, accommodating community gatherings and worship services.

The design by architects Vietzke & Borstelmann won second place in an ideas competition, leading to the construction of this innovative religious structure. This recognition resulted in a building that integrated spiritual and community functions in new ways.

The church functions as a community hub, combining worship space with a public café and housing for seniors, making it a gathering place that serves both spiritual and everyday needs.

The church is situated within the residential area of Großhansdorf and is easily accessible on foot via local pathways. Visitors should know that in addition to worship services, regular café hours and community gatherings create different times to visit.

The windows are strategically positioned low to create a visual connection between interior worship spaces and the immediate surroundings. This design choice blurs the boundary between the sacred space and the everyday environment, an unusual approach for church architecture.
