Church of St Lambertus, church building in Troisdorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
St. Lambertus in Troisdorf-Bergheim is a church building that combines different architectural styles from multiple periods. The current structure was built in 1869 in neogothic style, but contains elements and artwork from earlier building phases.
The church traces its origins back to the 8th century, when it was initially built from wood. A stone structure in Romanesque style followed in the 11th century, and later the building was expanded with Gothic elements during the 14th century.
The church is dedicated to Saint Lambertus, whose statue holds a central place inside. The name and veneration of this saint continue to shape the life and identity of the community in Bergheim today.
The church is easy to explore from inside, as the spaces are open and easy to navigate. Visitors should walk at a measured pace and allow time to look closely at the artwork and sculptures.
The smallest of the church bells originally dates from the 15th century, but was melted down and cast into a new bell in 1908. The three other bells are made of steel and were cast shortly after the Second World War.
