Inclined tower of Gau-Weinheim

The square stone tower stands as part of former cemetery fortifications, featuring bell mechanisms that ring three times each day at specific hours.

First documented in medieval times, the tower served as a defensive structure before its conversion into a bell tower in 1749 for both Protestant and Catholic congregations.

The bells mark important moments in daily village life, ringing at 11:00, 13:00, and 18:00, maintaining a centuries-old tradition of civic timekeeping.

Located at Obergasse 4 in Gau-Weinheim, the tower received structural reinforcement during its 1991 renovation, which cost 96,278 Deutsche Mark.

Measurements from July 2022 confirm this tower as the most tilted in the world with a 5.4277-degree inclination, surpassing both Suurhusen and Pisa towers.
