Jakobuskapelle auf dem Bergle, Pilgrimage chapel in Gengenbach, Germany
The Jakobuskapelle sits on a hilltop at 258 meters above sea level, offering views across the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest town of Gengenbach.
The chapel's location reveals Roman origins through numerous coin findings, while the current structure dates from 1681 during Abbot Placidus Thalmann's administration.
Seven paintings by Ruth Schaumann depicting the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount decorate the interior of this pilgrimage stop on the Way of St. James.
Visitors can reach the chapel by following the yellow diamond markers from Gengenbach station through the old town, then taking the red diamond trail to the summit.
The chapel features an external stone pulpit and stands next to the Holy Sepulcher Chapel, which contains a baroque tomb chamber with a sculptured figure of Christ.
