St.-Magnus-Kirche

St. Magnus Church is a Catholic church in Altingen featuring a sturdy four-story tower with a square base on its eastern side. It sits within a fortified churchyard near Tübingen and represents the regional architectural traditions of the area.

The Catholic parish first appeared in written records in 1275, while the lower tower section dates back to the 12th century. This early tower included defensive features that reflected the protective needs of the time before being removed in later periods.

The interior displays frescoes depicting saints and an altar painting of the Holy Family that define the spiritual character of the space. Five decorative wooden panels, formerly part of the pulpit, now line the choir balcony railing and reflect the artistic heritage of the church.

The churchyard is enclosed by walls, creating a defined space that is easy to explore on foot. The church is located near Tübingen and accessible from the village of Altingen, where regular services take place.

The organ was constructed by the Eduard Wiedenmann workshop with 776 pipes spread across two manual keyboards and a pedalboard featuring 13 registers. This instrument represents a remarkable piece of organ craftsmanship and the quality invested in the church's musical tradition.
