Nietzsche-Denkmal

The Nietzsche memorial on Holzmarkt square features a bronze figure of a philosopher seated in a chair holding an open book, while a young girl stands before him in an inquisitive pose. The two-figure composition rests on a sandstone base equipped with an information plaque for visitors.

The monument was unveiled in 2007, replacing the location of a previous fountain built in 1978 for Naumburg's 950th anniversary celebration. Sculptor Heinrich Apel created this bronze work to honor the philosopher who was born in the city.

The bronze figures depict a thinker sharing knowledge with a young visitor through open books and conversation. The scene shows how this philosopher's ideas continue to draw people of different ages to the square.
