Villa Haenel

Villa Haenel is a two-story residential house in Blasewitz constructed in sandstone and brick with multiple balconies and ornate window frames throughout. The exterior displays a mix of architectural styles that gives the building its distinctive visual character.

The building was constructed in 1889 by architect Karl Emil Scherz for businessman Theodor Eduard Haenel and represents the Neo-Renaissance style. It emerged during a period when Dresden was expanding its residential areas into the Blasewitz district.

The Protestant Adult Education Saxony operated in the villa from 1953 to 2020, serving as a center for religious and educational activities.

The ground floor currently hosts an exhibition space managed by a design agency that regularly features art presentations and events. It is worth checking ahead about what is currently on display.

The original facade facing Tolkewitzer Straße was decorated with elaborate painted frescoes, and the building once had a tower that was reduced in height during the 1950s. These changes show how the house adapted to different needs over time.
