Lemmier Mühle, Former windmill residence in Lemmie, Germany.
Lemmier Mühle is a former miller's residence in Gehrden, built with brick and featuring Gothic decorative elements throughout its exterior. Inside, it contains painted ceiling decorations that were preserved and restored during a comprehensive renovation project.
The history of this site begins with mention of a milling operation near Lemmie in 1226, establishing a long tradition of grain processing. In 1854, miller Narten received permission to build a wind-powered grain mill, which led to the structure that stands today.
The building carries the name mill, though it now serves as a home and its original purpose has long since ended. Visitors can still read the craftsmanship of the past in the architectural details, especially in the carefully designed interior spaces.
The building is located at An der Mühle 9 in the Lemmie district of Gehrden and is easily recognizable from outside. The site is straightforward to find, as the property stands out due to its brick walls and distinctive architectural character.
The original mill system featured four large rotating wings that turned like sails in the wind to grind grain. A special mechanical device allowed the mill to adjust its position relative to the wind direction, capturing the best airflow at all times.
