Paddelteich, Still waters in Langen, Germany.
Paddelteich is a pond in Langen covering roughly 0.4 hectares with a length of about 190 meters and a maximum width of roughly 35 meters. Water flows in from the Sterzbach stream and later connects to the Kirchnerseckgraben before joining the Hegbach river system.
The site originated as a mill pond system where six mills once powered their operations using the Sterzbach stream's current. This industrial heritage from past centuries continues to define the water area's character and purpose.
Local residents actively participate in decisions about the pond's future through surveys and information events, showing strong community involvement in environmental planning.
The site is located in eastern Langen and can be accessed from several entry points, though conditions may change seasonally. Walking or cycling around the area offers the best way to explore the water and see how it connects with surrounding landscapes.
A redesign plan approved in 2023 includes slope modifications, partial preservation of existing walls, and installation of an aeration system. These improvements show how the site is being upgraded while keeping some of its heritage features intact.
