Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, Electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Grünheide, Germany
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is an electric vehicle production site located in Grünheide, east of Berlin. The complex consists of several halls where robotic assembly lines join body panels and apply paint finishes to vehicle frames.
Construction began following the announcement in 2019, with forest clearing and permit approvals taking several months. The first vehicles left the production halls in spring 2022 after technical inspections were completed.
The plant bears the nickname Giga Berlin and draws workers from across Europe who contribute technical skills to the assembly lines. Many employees commute from nearby towns, bringing a mix of languages and manufacturing traditions to the production floor.
The site sits along the motorway between Berlin and the Polish border, surrounded by pine forests and residential areas. Tours are not open to the public, but the outer grounds and access roads are visible from the roadside.
The factory includes its own water management system that treats and reuses process water multiple times. Green spaces between buildings are designed to capture rainwater and reduce soil sealing.
