Heimatmuseum Herrnhut

Heimatmuseum Herrnhut is a local history museum housed in a protected building on Comeniusstrasse that displays regional collections across several exhibition rooms. The galleries feature Biedermeier furniture, handmade wallpapers, regional handicrafts, and paintings by artists including Anton Graff, Gustav Grunewald, and Adolf Lier.

The museum documents the region's history from the founding of Herrnhut in 1722 by Moravian refugees seeking shelter and safety. The collections reveal how the settlement developed and what role the Brethren community played in shaping local history.

The name originates from the Moravian Brethren community that found refuge here in the 18th century. The exhibits show furniture, handcrafts, and works by regional artists that reflect the daily life of this settlement.

The museum is located in the town center and easily accessible on foot, with guided tours offered in German. It is advisable to check opening times in advance, as these vary on weekends and holidays.

The collection includes intricate artworks made from human hair crafted by the community's sisters, and an astronomical clock created by David Roentgen. These pieces showcase the exceptional craftsmanship and technical skill present in the settlement.
