Marienkapelle, Religious chapel in southern Aachen, Germany
Marienkapelle is a church building in Aachen with a hexagonal form and two towers on its facade. Narrow window openings and strong pillars connected by round arches structure both floors of the building.
The building was originally erected in 1644 and replaced by a brick structure in 1697. Its present neo-Romanesque form resulted from a complete reconstruction carried out between 1901 and 1903.
The chapel displays a statue of Mary as Queen of Heaven, floating before an oak tree and serving as the focal point for worship. This devotional image shapes how visitors experience the religious purpose of the space.
The chapel is located in the Burtscheid district at the intersection of Gregorstrasse and Berdoletstrasse. The site is accessible on foot and situated in a well-developed residential area with nearby parking.
Seven stone wayside shrines, known as the Seven Falls of Burtscheid, originally marked the pilgrimage path from Burtscheid Abbey to the chapel. These stations still line the route today and show the importance of the location as a pilgrimage destination.
