Martinskirche, Protestant church in Möhringen, Germany
Martinskirche in Stuttgart-Möhringen is a Protestant church with a 63-meter tower, three naves, and sandstone construction topped with a zinc-coated roof over the choir. The interior features ribbed vaulting and a triforium gallery that structure the space and give visitors a sense of Gothic architecture.
After a Romanesque tower collapsed in 1459, Hans Böblinger directed construction of a new church beginning in 1464 and completed the lower tower by 1466. This structure has shaped Möhringen's appearance ever since and shows how medieval builders responded to disaster.
The name comes from Saint Martin, a saint deeply venerated in medieval times, and the stained glass windows inside show Gospel scenes that visitors notice during worship. These artworks shape the character of the interior and make this a place where faith and artistic traditions come together.
The church welcomes visitors during regular Protestant services and serves the communities of Möhringen and Fasanenhof districts. Those who want to explore the architecture should check service times to have freedom to walk around.
Two columns from the original Romanesque church survive today at the Spitalhof gate in Möhringen, connecting this site to its early medieval past. These stone remnants let visitors touch a direct link to the history before the 1464 reconstruction.
