Wellritzbach, Tributary stream in Wiesbaden, Germany
The Wellritzbach is a tributary stream in Wiesbaden that originates near the Chausseehaus and flows south through wooded areas. It runs approximately 8.5 kilometers before joining the Salzbach, passing through various parts of the city along the way.
The stream once had other names like Drudenbach and Gehrner Bach before sections were directed underground during city development. This redirection beneath Kurt-Schumacher-Ring took place in the mid-20th century.
The stream flows past recreational facilities and connects different green spaces throughout the city. Local residents use the surrounding paths for walks and outdoor activities along its course.
The valley offers several marked walking paths that are easy to access for visitors of all abilities. It is best to visit the trails when water is flowing after rain, when the landscape appears most active.
Between 2005 and 2020, sections of the stream were restored and brought back above ground as part of nature recovery efforts. This restoration allowed plants and animals to return to several areas where they had disappeared.
