Wilhelmshaven LNG Terminal, Floating regasification terminal in Wilhelmshaven, Germany
Wilhelmshaven LNG Terminal is a floating regasification facility on the North Sea coast. The installation uses specialized vessels to convert cooled gas back into its original form for distribution into the German pipeline network.
The terminal was planned as a response to supply crises in 2022 and began operation on December 17 of the same year. It was the first floating LNG facility of its kind in Germany.
The terminal represents Germany's commitment to energy independence and infrastructure modernization, supporting the national transition toward alternative energy sources.
The facility sits at the outer harbor entrance and is visible only from a distance on land. Visitors can observe the structures from the southern beach or from some viewpoints along the coastal promenade.
The facility uses special monitoring systems to control water quality and protect marine life in the North Sea. These measures also apply to the adjacent Wadden Sea National Park area.
