Arch of Hadrian, Roman triumphal arch near Syntagma Square, Athens, Greece

The marble gate structure stands 18 meters tall and features a large central passageway with Corinthian columns supporting the upper level.

The Athenian citizens commissioned this monument in 131 AD to commemorate Emperor Hadrian's contributions and mark the boundary between ancient and new Athens.

The inscriptions on both sides of the arch reference Theseus and Hadrian as city founders, reflecting the transition from Greek to Roman influence.

The monument remains open for viewing at all hours and requires no entrance fee, with the nearest metro station being Akropoli.

The structure contains two marble inscriptions in different directions: one facing the Acropolis mentions Theseus, while the opposite side references Hadrian.
