Paralia Chiliadou, Beach and settlement in Dirfys-Messapia Municipality, Greece.
Paralia Chiliadou is a coastal settlement on the eastern side of Euboea with a beach made of sandy and pebbly sections. The bay is surrounded by forested mountains and has several small tavernas for visitors.
This place was a refuge for pirates during the Middle Ages who built bases in the sheltered coves. This period of maritime raiding shaped how the settlement developed in such a remote location.
The name comes from the Panagia Chiliadou church, which legend says was the thousandth church built during a major Byzantine construction program. This church still shapes how the settlement looks and shows the religious importance this coastal place once held.
The area is easy to walk around and has flat access to the water at several points. Keep in mind that the location is quite remote, so it is a good idea to bring water and food with you before you go.
The northern beach section is designated for clothing-optional swimming and draws visitors from around the world. This feature makes the place an open and cosmopolitan destination along the coast.
