Alexandrion, Cultural heritage center in Litochoro, Greece
The Alexandrion is a building at the base of Mount Olympus dedicated to a foundation documenting the life and conquests of the ancient leader. The U-shaped structure contains exhibition spaces with maps, charts, and other materials presenting his military campaigns.
The foundation was established in 1992 as an initiative by Greeks from the diaspora to create a connection with their homeland. The project arose in the area near Dion, a place with deep ties to ancient Macedonian history.
The center preserves exhibitions and documents that show how Alexander the Great shaped the ancient world. Through these displays, visitors see how this historical figure remains meaningful to Greek identity today.
The building sits near the Olympus region and is easy to reach from the main highway between Athens and Thessaloniki. Visitors should note that the location is in a mountainous area and should allow time for viewing the exhibitions.
Inside is a reproduction of the famous Alexander mosaic from Pompeii, showing battles against Persian armies. This artwork offers a visual impression of how ancient warfare was depicted artistically.
