Karathona, Blue Flag beach in Nafplio, Greece
Karathona stretches for four kilometers along the coastline with a mixture of sandy areas and small pebbles bordered by eucalyptus trees.
The beach lies beneath the commanding Palamidi fortress, constructed during the Venetian period to protect the strategic harbor of Nafplio.
Local families gather at Karathona during summer evenings for traditional barbecues and community events near the water's edge.
Visitors can access the beach via a coastal walking path from Nafplio center, by regular bus service, or through the available parking facilities.
The small island of Pontikonissi sits offshore, while the carved Holy Temple of Panagia Katakekrimenis rests within the surrounding rock formations.
