Karathona

Karathona is a beach along the coast near Nafplio that stretches for several kilometers with sandy areas and small pebbles backed by eucalyptus trees. The water and shoreline draw swimmers and sunbathers throughout the year.

The bay sits below the Palamidi fortress, built during the Venetian period to guard the harbor of Nafplio. This fortification was a crucial part of the region's naval defense system.

The beach is easy to reach by walking along the coast from Nafplio town center, with bus stops and parking available nearby. Most visitors find it straightforward to get there and settle in for the day.

A small island called Pontikonissi sits just offshore and is visible from the beach. Nearby carved into the surrounding rocks is an ancient temple, adding a hidden historical layer to this seaside spot.
