Piraeus Tower, High-rise building in Piraeus Municipality, Greece.
Piraeus Tower is a 24-story high-rise building rising 84 meters in the port city of Piraeus, constructed from reinforced concrete and designed in the International Style. The structure provides office spaces and showcases the characteristic framework design typical of modern urban architecture.
Construction of the tower began in 1972 during a politically unstable period in Greece and was not completed and updated until much later. The building remained largely empty for decades before undergoing major renovation in the early 2020s.
The tower takes its name from the port city it stands in and has become a defining feature of Piraeus's skyline as a modern high-rise. It represents how the city embraced contemporary architecture and urban development in recent decades.
The building features natural shading systems that reduce direct sunlight and keep interior spaces comfortable throughout the day. It sits near public transportation options, making it easily accessible for visitors and those working in the offices.
During its recent renovation, a substantial amount of glass was recycled and sustainable technologies were added, transforming it into a model of environmentally conscious restoration. This conversion from a long-vacant shell into a working office building demonstrates how older structures can be revived with modern practices.
