Athens University of Economics and Business, university
The Athens University of Economics and Business is a public university in central Athens that offers programs in economics, business administration, informatics, and related fields. Its buildings are spread across several city blocks and house lecture halls, research centers, and library facilities.
The university was founded in 1920, making it one of the oldest business schools in Greece and in Europe. Over the course of the 20th century it grew from a small commercial school into a full research university with multiple departments.
The university sits in the Pedion tou Areos neighborhood and is closely tied to the daily life of the surrounding streets. Bookshops, cafés, and small shops nearby cater mostly to students and staff, giving the area a studious and relaxed feel.
The campus is within walking distance of the Omonoia metro station, making it easy to reach from most parts of the city. Since access to certain areas may be limited during the academic term, it is worth contacting the university in advance.
Although the university is known mainly for economics and business, it houses one of the oldest informatics departments in Greece, established in the 1980s. This made it an early mover in a field that was barely recognized as an academic discipline at the time.
