The church features a square structure with a circular dome that stands higher than typical proportions for buildings of similar size in the region.
Constructed between the 9th and 11th centuries, the church sustained damage during the 1940-1941 Greek-Italian War and underwent complete restoration in 1949.
The interior walls display numerous frescoes depicting the life of Christ and saints, while the narthex presents scenes from the Virgin Mary's life.
The church maintains regular visiting hours throughout the year and provides guided tours in multiple languages for visitors interested in Byzantine architecture.
The narthex arch contains one of the earliest Byzantine examples of anthropomorphic Trinity representation, dating from the 13th century.
