Zincirli Mosque

The Zincirli Mosque is a house of worship in the center of Serres with a large dome covering a square prayer hall and open colonnades on three sides. The walls combine cut stone with brick, while the entrance is built from carefully shaped limestone blocks.

This building was commissioned in the late 1500s as a memorial and demonstrates design principles that were taught through the school of the master builder Mimar Sinan. Its approach to layout and decoration reflects methods that became standard in Ottoman cities at that time.

This building was once the heart of religious life for the local community, and its interior still reflects how people valued both faith and fine craftsmanship. The elaborately decorated pulpit shows how much care was invested in creating a space that honored prayer and tradition.

The marble pulpit in the southwestern corner is one of the few surviving examples of this skilled craftwork technique preserved in Greece today. This finely carved piece shows methods that are rarely found elsewhere in the region.
