Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport, International airport in Colombier-Saugnieu, France
Lyon–Saint-Exupéry is an international airport in Colombier-Saugnieu, France, offering flights to destinations across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Two parallel runways handle traffic for 46 airlines that operate from the terminals throughout the year.
The airport opened on April 20, 1975, replacing Lyon-Bron Airport, which could no longer handle growing passenger numbers. Over the decades that followed, the site developed into a major hub for the Rhône-Alpes region and beyond.
Named after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who was both writer and pilot from Lyon, the airport carries the memory of someone who loved flight. His books about flying give meaning to this place where travelers begin and end their journeys across continents.
A train station at the airport links the terminals to Lyon city center with regular services running frequently during the day. Travelers will find information desks and signage throughout the public areas to help with orientation.
The train station on the airport grounds was designed by Santiago Calatrava and features a roof of glass and steel that resembles wings. This structure stands out clearly from typical airport buildings and draws the eye of many who pass through.
