Église Saint-Georges, Gothic Revival church in 5th arrondissement of Lyon, France
The stone church features a 67-meter tower, stained glass windows by Maréchal de Metz, and sculptures by Charles Dufraine on its facade.
The original church from 550 AD was destroyed by Saracens in 732, restored in 802, and the current structure was completed in 1848 by architect Pierre Bossan.
The church contains a polychrome wooden altarpiece from the sixteenth century depicting the coronation of the Virgin Mary within its interior.
Located at Place François-Bertras in Vieux Lyon, the church maintains regular religious services and welcomes visitors throughout the week.
In 1989, Cardinal Albert Decourtray assigned the church to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, allowing the use of Latin liturgical books from 1962.
