Château de Beauregard, Medieval castle in Saint-Genis-Laval, France.
Château de Beauregard is a castle with five terraces where Italian-style gardens and ponds with water lilies are arranged at different elevations. The structure spreads across multiple garden levels that connect together to create a flowing landscape experience.
The castle was built by a wealthy Florentine banker who received French King Charles IX and Queen Catherine de Medici in 1564. This royal visit showed the site's importance and the owner's significant standing at that time.
The name comes from a former owner, and its Italian design reflects the heritage of those who built it. Visitors can experience the southern European style of the gardens and terraces as they walk through the grounds.
The park is open daily until 10 PM during summer months and has public restrooms in the renovated central pavilion. Visitors should allow time to explore the different levels, as the paths between terraces are gently walkable.
In the early 2010s, thousands of grapevines were planted to revive the site's historical wine-growing heritage. This revival connects the current use directly to the agricultural character the grounds once had.
