Stade de France, National stadium in Saint-Denis, France

The Stade de France is a national stadium in Saint-Denis near Paris, built to host football, rugby, and track and field events. A movable tier with 25,000 seats adjusts to optimize viewing angles depending on the sport or performance taking place.

Construction began in 1995 and was completed in time for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which concluded with France defeating Brazil 3-0 in the final. Since then, it has served as the venue for numerous international sporting events and major concerts.

Visitors regularly witness major matches featuring the French national football team, rugby contests, and track and field events drawing thousands of passionate supporters. The atmosphere on game days reflects the country's deep connection to sport, with crowds singing, cheering, and celebrating together.

The venue sits roughly 10 kilometers from central Paris and can be reached via two RER train stations and several bus lines. Visitors should arrive early on major event days, as entry points require time to process large crowds.

The roof structure covers 6 hectares (about 15 acres) and weighs 13,000 tons, yet appears to float above the arena thanks to 18 steel pylons that support it. This design allows spectators in the upper tiers to maintain an open view of the sky.

Rugby stadiums: international venues, historic grounds

Large capacity rugby stadiums are primarily located in Europe, Oceania and South Africa. These sporting venues host national and international rugby competitions. Some stadiums are dedicated exclusively to rugby while others accommodate multiple types of sporting events. Capacities range from 12,000 to 82,000 spectators. The facilities meet international federation standards and provide suitable infrastructure for top-level matches.

Largest stadiums in the world: capacity, architecture, sports

This collection gathers the largest stadiums on the planet, ranked by seating capacity. From the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, India, which hosts major cricket matches, to the vast American university arenas dedicated to football, and the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, these sports facilities demonstrate the scale that infrastructures for competitions and mass gatherings can reach. Each stadium has its own identity: some are exclusively dedicated to a specific sport, while others serve as flexible venues capable of hosting various events. Their sizes enable them to accommodate between 100,000 and over 150,000 spectators, providing organizers the opportunity to gather large crowds for international competitions, national finals, or major ceremonies.

A definitely legendary stadium with the victory of our national team in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. It also hosts very large concerts.
