The site originated as a 12th-century fortress, later transformed into a noble residence by Jehan de Filières following his ennoblement in 1471.

The château offers guided tours in English lasting 30 minutes, with admission fees of 7.50 euros for adults and 5.00 euros for children over 12.
A section of the château dates to the Henry IV period, retaining its original cut stone construction while integrating with the later neoclassical additions.
