Château de Filières

Château de Filières is a château in Gommerville featuring Renaissance and Louis XVI architectural elements with a white stone facade designed by architect Victor Louis. The structure combines elegant classical lines with detailed features reflecting different periods of construction.

The site began as a 12th-century fortress and was transformed into a noble residence by Jehan de Filières following his ennoblement in 1471. This transformation marked the start of its long history as a seat of nobility.

The château displays 18th-century furniture, sculptures, and objects from around the world arranged in period rooms. These collections show the tastes and travels of the family who lived there.

The château is best explored through a guided tour to understand its history and architecture in detail. Plan adequate time to view the rooms and collections without rushing.

A section of the château dates to the Henry IV period and preserves its original cut stone construction. This older part is skillfully integrated with neoclassical additions made later.
