Saint-Girons

Saint-Girons is a commune in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Ariège, situated in a valley between several rivers. The town sits at about 390 meters elevation and is shaped by the valleys of the Salat and Lez rivers.

The name comes from Girons of Hagetmau, who spread Christianity in the region during the early Middle Ages. The settlement developed over centuries as the local administrative center for the surrounding valleys.
