St Theobald's Church

St Theobald's Church displays Gothic architecture with its 76-meter spire, ornate western portal measuring 16 by 8 meters, and interior featuring ribbed vaults, pointed arches, and extensive stained glass windows from the 15th century.

Construction began in 1332 with the south lateral nave and concluded around 1516 when master Rémy Faesch from Basel completed the tower, representing nearly two centuries of medieval craftsmanship and architectural evolution.

The church serves as a 'Poor Man's Bible' with over 87 sculpted saints adorning its exterior walls and a detailed tympanum depicting 21 scenes from Saint Mary's life, making religious stories accessible through visual art.

Located at Place Joffre in Thann, the church remains active for Catholic services under the Archdiocese of Strasbourg and welcomes visitors interested in Gothic architecture and medieval religious art.

The western portal features multiple rows of sculpted archivolts depicting biblical narratives, while the interior houses Alsace's most extensive collection of 15th-century stained glass windows alongside Baroque paintings from the early 18th century.
