Toulouse-Blagnac, International airport in Blagnac, France

Toulouse-Blagnac is an international airport northwest of Toulouse city center, spreading across a single terminal building that houses several areas for arrivals and departures. The site sits beside Airbus production facilities and includes taxiways that accommodate both commercial flights and test flights of newly manufactured aircraft.

The facility began operations in September 1939 as France entered World War II and needed strategic air connections. Extensive expansions during the 1970s led to a formal inauguration in April 1978, establishing the site as a major hub for southwestern France.

The name honors Pierre-Georges Latécoère, the French aviation pioneer who built his first mail routes to Africa and South America from here in the 1920s. Today regular flights connect this gateway to the Pyrenees with European and North African destinations, with many business travelers and visitors to the pink city arriving daily.

A direct tram line connects the terminal to the city center in roughly thirty minutes, while buses also reach suburbs and neighboring towns. Car rental desks sit in the arrivals hall, and parking areas are available for both short stays and longer trips.

Some passengers watch from terminal windows as brand-new wide-body aircraft make their first movements on nearby taxiways straight after assembly. These test runs often occur alongside regular flight operations, offering rare glimpses of aircraft production before the official maiden flight.
