Château de La Palice, Medieval and Renaissance castle in Lapalisse, France

The Château de La Palice combines defensive medieval fortifications with decorative Renaissance elements, including rose-colored brick walls and gold-decorated box beam ceilings.

Built around 1200, the castle gained prominence when Jacques de Chabannes acquired it in 1430, leading to significant architectural additions in the following century.

The furnished rooms of the castle now function as a museum, displaying historical artifacts that represent the evolution of French nobility through centuries.

The castle welcomes visitors from April through October, with guided tours available Tuesday to Sunday at prices ranging from 4 to 8 euros.

The Renaissance wing features specially crafted ceilings with raised box beams adorned in gold, connecting the medieval fortress to a Gothic chapel from 1470.
