Oppède, Medieval commune in Vaucluse, France.

Oppède is a village in Vaucluse in Provence that sits on rolling, forested land. The commune has narrow paved streets, old stone buildings, and lies within a nature park surrounded by lavender fields and forests.

The village has roots in Roman times and was later built around a small chapel during the Middle Ages. It kept its rural structure over the centuries, shaped by farming and local traditions.

The name comes from an old Roman family and you can see this heritage reflected in how the village is built. The residents have kept their traditional stone houses, which show how people lived in earlier times.

The village is best explored on foot, as the streets are narrow and difficult for cars. Visitors find simple lodging and restaurants nearby, and the best time to visit is in warmer months when nature is in full bloom.

The village was long a quiet place that drew artists and craftspeople who set up workshops in the old houses. Today you still find traces of this creative past scattered throughout in small studios and shops.
