Mauges, Historical and natural region in Maine-et-Loire, France.

The Mauges extend between Angers, Nantes, and Cholet, forming an area of varied landscape with valleys, plateaus, and numerous streams running through it. The region is defined by its natural diversity, with gentle hills and green spaces spread across the entire territory.

The region played a central role in 1793 during the French Revolution in the Vendée Wars, with numerous battles around Cholet. This period shaped the development and awareness of the local population deeply.

The region is known for its herb gardens, particularly the Camifolia Garden in Chemillé, where rare medicinal plants from across Europe are grown and tended. Visitors can see how traditional plant cultivation remains part of local life and identity.

The GR3 hiking trail and Loire à Vélo cycling route offer good access to natural landscapes and local products throughout the region. The area is best explored on foot or by bike, allowing you to discover river valleys and villages along the way.

Trottière Hill reaches 216 meters and is the highest point in Maine-et-Loire department. From this summit, on clear days you can overlook much of the surrounding landscape and experience the varied terrain of the region.
