Hôtel de Tallard

Hôtel de Tallard is a private mansion located on Rue des Archives with an impressive entrance, ornamental stonework, and columned details on its front facade. The property extends through a coach passage to service buildings and features a garden running parallel to Rue de Beauce.

Built between 1702 and 1704 for Denis-Jean Amelot de Chaillou, a royal official, this mansion later became known as the residence of Marshal Tallard when he purchased it in 1722. The change in ownership marked a shift in the building's social standing and its connection to French military leadership.

The building displays early 18th-century French architectural style with decorated facades and ornate staircases that reflect the tastes of its wealthy occupants. These features reveal how the upper class expressed status through interior design.

This is a private residence not open to the public, but visitors can observe its architecture and decorative details from the street. The building's location in the Quartier des Enfants-Rouges makes it easy to find among nearby galleries and shops.

A careful restoration from 1980 to 1981 preserved delicate plaster floral designs and cornices found in the first-floor rooms. This renovation work demonstrates the effort to maintain the mansion's original ornamental character for future visitors.
