Fontéchevade, Prehistoric cave and paleolithic site in Montbron, France.

The Fontéchevade cave extends through a U-shaped tunnel measuring 6 meters in width and approximately 30 meters in length.

Archaeological excavations since 1870 have uncovered human skull fragments and remains dating back approximately 150,000 years at this classified historical monument.

The cave contains artifacts from three distinct periods: Tayacian with massive scrapers, Mousterian with points and bifaces, and Aurignacian with bone tools.

The site requires advance arrangements for visits and maintains restricted access to protect its archaeological contents and geological formations.

Researchers discovered the oldest human bone fragments in the Charente region within this cave, attributed to a pre-Neanderthal individual.
