Le Croisic, Coastal commune in Loire-Atlantique, France
Le Croisic is a port town built on a granite island off the Atlantic coast, connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The landscape features sandy beaches on one side and rocky cliffs on the other, creating varied coastal scenery.
The settlement grew from early seafaring activity in the 5th century into a significant port town. In the 1800s, the addition of a protective jetty between 1839 and 1844 strengthened its role as a maritime hub.
The local fishermen maintain marine traditions by catching shrimp and developing shellfish farming activities throughout the coastal waters.
The town is well connected by rail, with electrified service since 1986 linking to Saint-Nazaire at regular intervals. The flat landscape and seaside position make it easy to walk around and explore the different coastal areas.
The port received enhanced protection through the construction of the Tréhic jetty between 1839 and 1844, transforming maritime capabilities.
