Nozeroy, Medieval commune in Jura, France.

Nozeroy is a medieval commune in the Jura region of eastern France, sitting at elevations between 660 and 834 meters. Stone buildings cluster around a 15th-century clock tower that once marked the entrance to this former stronghold of the Chalon dukes.

Nozeroy developed as a fortified stronghold under the control of the Chalon dukes during the medieval period and maintained this strategic role for centuries. Construction of the clock tower in the 15th century reflects the era when the fortress remained an important military position.

The Saint-Antoine collegiate church displays altar fronts and chasubles embroidered with wheat straw, a handcraft technique developed by local nuns in the 17th century. These embroidered textiles show the skilled handiwork that was passed down through generations in this place.

QR codes placed throughout the historical center let you explore the past at your own pace and learn details independently. A children's activity booklet provides tasks around the ramparts, making the visit engaging for families with kids.

The Val de Mièges butter cooperative makes artisanal butter directly from cream, while two local cheese dairies produce regional Comté cheese. These food products reflect the dairy traditions that have shaped this mountain region.
