Notre-Dame de la Garde is a Catholic basilica located on the highest natural point in Marseille, France.
The basilica was consecrated on June 5, 1864 and replaced a church of the same name that was built in 1214.
Known as the 'Good Mother', it is a major local landmark and the site of a popular annual pilgrimage on Assumption Day.
Visitors can reach the basilica by taking a tourist train or public bus from the Old Port of Marseille.
The basilica's bell tower is topped with a gilded statue of the Virgin Mary, which has become one of the symbols of the city.
