L'Aumône Abbey

L'Aumône Abbey includes a 13th-century dovecote, two buildings from the 15th century, and remains of the original church wall in Loir-et-Cher department.

Founded in 1121 through Count Theobald IV of Blois's donation, L'Aumône Abbey became the seventh daughter establishment of Cîteaux Abbey and mother to 29 monasteries.

The monastery established connections with numerous religious institutions across Europe, contributing to the spread of Cistercian architectural and spiritual practices.

Fragments of the medieval cloister remain preserved in the museum of Blois, allowing visitors to examine the detailed stonework of the original structure.

The abbey maintained its position as a significant religious center until 1791, when the French Revolution led to its suppression and property confiscation.
