Bérault, Metro station in Vincennes and Saint-Mandé, France
Bérault is a metro station on line 1 of the Paris transit network, sitting on the border between Saint-Mandé and Vincennes. The underground station has two side platforms facing each other beneath an oval vaulted ceiling covered in white ceramic tiles and fitted with modern lighting.
The station opened in 1934 as the Paris metro network expanded toward the eastern suburbs. In the late 2000s, the platforms were rebuilt and screen doors were added in preparation for the full automation of line 1, completed in 2012.
The station has four entrances spread across both sides of the street, with one giving access only from Saint-Mandé near the Bégin hospital. The nearest RER station is a short walk away, making it easy to switch to regional trains.
The station name honors Bérault Stuart d'Aubigny, a 15th-century captain who served at the nearby Château de Vincennes. The station was among the first on line 1 to receive platform screen doors in 2008, several years before the line became fully automatic.
