Murol Castle, Medieval fortress in Puy-de-Dôme, France
The castle rises on a basalt outcrop at 1050 meters elevation, commanding three regional roads with defensive walls reaching 10 meters in height.
Built in the 11th century, the fortress was reinforced in 1390 by Guillaume II de Murol during the Hundred Years' War to protect local populations.
The castle preserves two registers containing poems, personal memories, and an autobiographical will from Guillaume II de Murol from the medieval period.
The castle opens daily from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the last entry at 4:00 PM, and allows dogs on leads within its premises.
The fortress maintains detailed accounts from 600 years ago, documenting the daily operations and life within its walls during the 15th century.
