Fort de Joux, Medieval fortress in La Cluse-et-Mijoux, France

The fortress spans two hectares with five rings of fortification, containing 250 rooms, three moats, and three drawbridges across multiple levels.

Originally built in the 11th century as a wooden structure, the fort underwent extensive renovations by different owners, including Philip the Good and Vauban.

The fort housed notable prisoners such as Toussaint Louverture, making it a memorial site connected to the fight against slavery in France.

The military museum displays over 600 weapons from the 18th to 20th centuries, with guided tours available throughout the year.

The fort features a 101-meter-deep well, which was once recorded as the deepest in France during its operational period.
