The stone monastery rises in the Seye River valley, featuring high walls, pointed arches, and large Gothic windows that illuminate its interior spaces.
Founded in 1144 by Bishop Adhemar III of Rodez, the abbey functioned as a Cistercian monastery until the French Revolution, when it was sold and converted into a farm.
The abbey displays an extensive collection of modern art, including works by Jean Dubuffet, Henri Michaux, and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva within its medieval walls.
The museum opens daily from June to September between 10 AM and 6 PM, with restricted hours and days during other months, and remains closed throughout January.
Pierre Brache and Geneviève Bonnefoi transformed this medieval abbey into an art center by selling a Brancusi artwork to fund its restoration in 1959.
