Pierre Mauroy Stadium, Multi-purpose sports venue in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France
Pierre Mauroy Stadium is a multi-purpose sports venue in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, northern France, with a capacity of around 50,000 spectators. The complex features a retractable roof and movable floor system that adapts to different types of events.
Construction began in July 2009 under the direction of architects Valode & Pistre. The official opening took place on August 17, 2012, marking the completion of one of the most modern arenas in France.
The venue is named after a former French prime minister who came from the Lille metropolitan area. Beyond football matches, the arena regularly hosts concerts and large-scale shows, keeping the space active throughout the year.
Several tram and bus lines connect directly to the site, while Villeneuve-d'Ascq train station is within short distance. Arriving early is advisable during major events, as access routes can become congested.
The sliding pitch allows switching between grass and an indoor hall underneath within a few hours. This technical solution enables indoor sports to be held without damaging the turf.
