Place d'Armes, Central square in Metz, France

The Place d'Armes features a rectangular design measuring 125 meters long and 50 meters wide with distinctive bi-colored pavement arranged in X patterns.

The square was constructed between 1750 and 1760 under Louis XV's direction, replacing multiple buildings including the cathedral cloister that previously occupied the space.

The buildings surrounding Place d'Armes represent different governmental powers: municipal at City Hall, military at the guard house, and judicial at the Parliament.

The square provides direct access to major attractions of Metz, including Saint-Etienne Cathedral and the Tourist Office located in the former guard house.

The square displays two military trophies built in 1767 by Pierre-François Le Roy and features a statue of Marshal Fabert installed in 1842.
